  • COMING SOON

  • THIS WOMAN IS A BARKER

JOSELITO VILLASIS/PN - Yes, barkers like this woman (left) are back on Iloilo City’s streets, defiantly challenging the city government. Regulation Ordinance No. 2014-194 prohibits barkers from plying their trade. The ordinance defines a barker as “an individual who calls for, facilitates, induces or convinces commuters to board a particular or preferred public utility vehicle such as jeepney, taxi, van and bus for the purpose of extracting an amount from the vehicle’s driver.” A violator could be jailed for a minimum of three months but not more than six months.

  • JUST DELICIOUS

PHOT BY HARRY Z. - These dried fishes are from northern Iloilo, says this vendor. Vendors at Iloilo City’s terminal market are imploring that provincial jeepneys be allowed to enter the city. Joint Administrative Order 2014-01 of the Land Transportation Office and Land Transportation Franchising and Regulatory Board mostly burdens vendors from provinces who buy products wholesale from Iloilo City market vendors, or deliver goods to the city from faraway places.

  • THE TOMB PAINTER

JOSELITO VILLASIS/PN - This man takes on an odd job – painting tombs. It’s a lucrative business every Halloween season, he says. He charges P300 for every tomb. Ilonggos are girding for the traditional Halloween break this Nov. 1 to remember their dearly departed. This includes sprucing up cemeteries.

  • A BIG TURNOFF

DOL FAJARDO/PN - No, this flooded road is not in Iloilo City. This one is in Boracay Island. Not a few tourists – domestic and foreign – are wondering what’s the local government of Malay, Aklan where Boracay belongs is doing to solve the flooding. This has long been pestering the popular island resort. The tourists are turned off.

  • ARCHIE REY ALIPALO/PN - The Familia Luzuriaga cemetery on Lopez Jaena Street Bacolod City is being prepared for the All Saints’ and All Souls’ Days over the weekend. Serving as a traffic island, this is the only cemetery located in the middle of a street.

  • DANGEROUS

ARCHIE REY ALIPALO/PN - The driver of this overloaded jeepney plying on the national road in Mabinay, Negros Oriental continues to get more passengers. The safety of the commuters riding on the vehicle’s roof is threatened.
