Displayed at SM City Iloilo’s new wing is the 15-foot Chinese Fire Monkey lantern handcrafted by inmates of the Iloilo District jail. The lantern is made of durable materials and illuminated with hundreds of lights. The inmates have been engaging in meaningful work such as lantern-making, especially during the Christmas season. It gives them an opportunity to earn as well as show love for their families by helping provide for their needs through mastering this craft despite their situation. The production of the giant monkey lantern in celebration of Chinese New Year 2016 proves the inmates’ skills and innovativeness. The monkey lantern, found only at SM City Iloilo, is a truly delightful attraction to shoppers.
