    GUIJO DUEÑAS/PN - A child watches as insects feast on this rotten okra, a popular edible green seed pods. In the Philippines, okra can be found among traditional dishes like pinakbet and sinigang. Because of its mild taste and ubiquity, okra can also be cooked adobo-style, or served steamed or boiled in a salad with tomatoes, onion and shrimp paste.

  • FRESH FROM THE FARM

    GUIJO DUEÑAS/PN - At the Iloilo Terminal Market, one can buy fresh vegetables like squash. A vendor says he sells squash at P40 a kilo. Squash is a good source of Vitamin A, Vitamin C, dietary fiber, niacin, folic acid, and iron, and like all plant products are free of cholesterol.

A total of 216 farmers from Negros Occidental and Negros Oriental joined this year’s festival, which started on Wednesday and will wrap up on Sunday.
