    Mayor Mariano Malones of Maasin, Iloilo will know his fate on Sept. 9, 2014 when the Sangguniang Panlalawigan convenes. In 2002, Malones terminated the employment of Elsa Maternal as the town’s assistant human resource management officer. She lodged an administrative complaint against him for oppression, misconduct in office, dishonesty, and abuse of authority.

The city government is busy sprucing up the metropolis in preparation for two ministerial meetings of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation Summit 2015. Iloilo City will host the Small and Medium Enterprises Ministerial Meeting from Sept. 21 to 25, 2015, according to a July 22 memorandum issued by Executive Secretary Paquito Ochoa Jr. Around 700 delegates from 21 APEC member economies are expected to attend. The city will also host the Food Security Week (High Level Policy Dialogue on Food Security and the Blue Economy and Related Meetings) from Sept. 28 to Oct. 6 next year, with an estimated 900 delegates attending.
