BACOLOD City – The revival of “Run-Negros- Run” is being worked out.
The popular relay marathon held its last edition 35 years ago.
Angel “Nonong” Verdeflor, Negros Occidental sports coordinator, said “Run-Negros-Run” was started by the late ambassador Roberto S. Benedicto.
For the revival, some 35 teams are being mulled to slug it out.
The competition will also take on a modified name – the “Negros First Gov. Alfredo Marañon Jr., Run-Negros-Run.”
“Gov. Marañon is willing to bankroll this project until we can get corporate sponsors to run the affair long-term,” Verdeflor said.
Two starting points are being considered just like in previous editions of the race.
The Kabankalan City to Bacolod City route is being eyed for the first stage, and Escalante City to Bacolod City for the second stage.
The event will be highlighted with a 420-kilometer full individual marathon.
“Run-Negros-Run” has produced some of the best marathoners in the region the likes of Eriberto Diaz of Bago City, Rodolfo Rizalde of Ajuy, Iloilo and Supt. Alex Muñoz, among others./PN
